Help us continue to build a stronger, better Beltline!

Our neighbourhood is going through a lot of changes (and improvements!). This month, we would like to get you involved with two big projects: continuing to build our strong community association, and, supporting our local businesses and have a great time with a backyard alley party:

1. Join or renew by purchasing your 2017/2018 BNA Membership for only $10

2. Backyard Alley Party - Sept. 22-24 & Sept. 29 - Oct. 1 (Facebook event)

1. Join or renew your BNA Membership

With fall approaching, BNA is launching our membership drive for 2017-18 memberships. Why buy a membership?

It’s a critical time for the Beltline residents and businesses to play a role in shaping the future of the Beltline district in Calgary. We need your membership and participation to meet these goals. The BNA has successfully:

  • Beautified our neighborhood through the ongoing Beltline Murals Project to promote art, improve the public realm, foster community identity, and attract interest to local businesses in the Beltline.
  • Shaped the new Green Line LRT which will be passing through the neighbourhoods of East Victoria and Victoria Centre by advocating for an underground alignment along 12th Avenue.

  • Launching the McHugh House community hub with CJSW and partners like Cowtown Opera, Calgary Pride, and the Big Rock Classic.

  • Advocated with our neighbours including the Calgary Stampede for ENMAX to bury a new major transmission line near Beltline underground instead of above.

  • Held the Beltline's first-ever Bonspiel and Neighbour Day celebrations, each with over 200 attendees, local music and food, and guests from across the City and all levels of government.

The Beltline needs an organization to advocate on behalf of its residents and businesses on these projects and many others to ensure the best outcomes for our neighbourhoods. You can support that advocacy by maintaining your BNA membership and encouraging your friends to buy a membership.

2. Backyard Alley Party - Sept. 22-24 & Sept. 29 - Oct. 1 (Facebook event)

Maybe you’ve heard that the Beltline Neighbourhood Association, in partnership with City of Calgary, the 17th Ave BRZ and local businesses are throwing a cool alley party in the Beltline! If not, well, guess what? We’re throwing a cool alley party at the end of September! The Backyard Alley Party is a great pilot project to help businesses and residents who are being impacted by the 17th Ave Reconstruction Project. We’ll be transforming the alley north of 17th Avenue between 4th and 5th Street into a backyard with patios, an open air movie theatre, local art, outdoor yoga, vendors and more! Departments from across the City have come together to help us bring this awesome event to life, but we’d love to have your help as well!

So here’s our ask: we need people to help us turn this alley into a lush backyard party! We’ll be stringing lights, building planter walls, rolling out Astroturf, and setting out picnic tables. Many hands make light work! If you’re willing to come out to help build a cool event with us we need help these dates and times. We need a lot of people to make this happen so feel free to sign up for 1, 2, 3 or more shifts!
