2017 Beltline Bonspiel
The first annual Beltline Bonspiel was held on Saturday, February 25, 2017 on the site of Beaulieu Gardens and the Lougheed House. The event was a partnership between the Beltline Neighbourhoods Association, the Lougheed House, Calgary Curling Association, Southern Alberta Curling Association, City of Calgary Parks, City of Calgary Adopt-a-Rink, MLA Kathleen Ganley (Calgary Buffalo), Councillor Evan Woolley (Ward 8) and the Inglewood, Sunalta and Bankview community associations.
Approximately 750 people came out to watch the first outdoor bonspiel in Calgary in over 100 years. The bonspiel was a friendly competition between four curling teams from the Beltline Neighbourhoods Association, Inglewood CA, Sunalta CA, Bankview CA and CBC Calgary. This year, CBC Calgary won the 1915 Brewer’s Trophy Cup, which was generously provided by the Calgary Curling Association and not awarded to any team since 1966.
While one curling rink was used for the Bonspiel competition, a second curling rink was provided for all members of the community, young and old, to try curling.
The Restaurant at the Lougheed House set up an outdoor tent selling hot chocolate and snacks while DJ Jamal Hamadeh of CJSW 90.9 FM Freshley Squeezed spun fresh tunes rinkside.
Thank you to everyone who attended and made the first ever Beltline Bonspiel a huge success!
