The Beltline Neighbourhoods Association (BNA) is a community association for the vibrant Beltline district in urban Calgary home to over 26,000 residents in the neighbourhoods of Connaught and Victoria Park.
Based out of the McHugh House Community & Arts Hub (currently under renovation), the BNA is non-profit organized by a volunteer Board of Directors who work to make the BNA an accessible and diverse association open to all residents to get involved in making the Beltline an even better place.
Here's a rundown of our 2026 activities...
We Supported Great Events
📽️High Park Movies With A View
We hosted 5 free open air movie screenings up at High Park as part of our ongoing Movies With A View series. For the 2026 screenings, we collaborated with Quickdraw Animation Society, The National Film Board, and the BUMP Festival Arts Society.

We Advocated for the Beltline Neighbourhoods
🌿17th Avenue Open Streets Pilot

The BNA has continued to meet with 17th Ave businesses to advance a concept for an open street pilot in summer 2027. A information session is being held for businesses November 5th, 2026 from 3:30PM to 6:30PM at Central Memorial Library to share updates and collect further feedback from local businesses.
🚋Green Line: Beltline and Downtown Alignment

We continued to advocate against the Provincial Government’s interference in the Green Line project. After study by city administration, the Province's proposed elevated Green Line alignment over 10th Ave and north up 2 St SW was found to be $1 billion over budget. Ultimately, city council approved the 10 Ave surface alignment which could be transformational for 10th Avenue and the terminus at High Park (2 St NW).
Over the next year, the BNA will work with the city to engage the community on the best possible design for this corridor and advocate for potential improvements to 11th and 12 Avenues.
🚲14th and 15th Ave SW Mobility Improvements

Thanks to eight years of ongoing advocacy by the BNA, the 14th and 15th Ave SW mobility improvements are finally completed. The walking and wheeling improvements, include a fully protected cycle track, curb extensions, a traffic calming speed bump and new crosswalks, span from 11 St SW to Stampede. The BNA is working with the city to improve safety of some of the new intersection designs.
We Planned for the Future - Beltline Urban Development Committee
We continue to review and provide feedback to dozens of development permits in the Beltline, and meet with developers, City Planners, and local stakeholders to help with better urban development in the Beltline. The committee is open to all Beltline residents who want to get involved in improving the Beltline neighbourhoods.
We Continued to Improve Parks in the Beltline
HIGH PARK - Phase 7: 🐝 Pollinator Gardens and Sun Shades⛱️

In addition to hosting the 2026 edition of the popular High Park Movies With A View series we also worked with a local horticulturalist Juniper Gardens to plant a mix of pollinators, perennials and native plants in our High Park Gardens!
High quality, architectural sun shades will be installed at all the picnic tables in the weeks ahead.

We Worked With The Community
Beltline Fridge

The Beltline Fridge closed down this past year with the (temporary) closure of the Old Y and ongoing maintenance challenges. The fridge made a real difference and we're grateful for all the volunteer involvement that made it a success.
McHugh House Reopening 2027🎉

After what has felt like an endless 5+ years of delays, renovations to the McHugh House are expected to wrap up in the next couple months. We look forward to inviting the community back into this space and activating this location (inside and outside). Stay tuned!
HELP US KEEP BUILDING A STRONGER, BETTER BELTLINE.
